Learn to freedive with Salt Aotearoa on our SSI Freediver course. This isn't a course like any other! We are based in Whitianga and get to learn the fundamentals of freediving in the lush natural hot springs at The Lost Springs for our initial theory, followed by a pool session, completed by 1 and a half days out at Ahuahu/ Great Mercury and the surrounding islands to practise our new skills in the beautiful moana. We have such a supportive crew and stunning setting for you to have the best freediving experience.
This course provides you with all the essential theory and skills to kick start or refine your free diving journey. It is perfect for absolute novice, but also for anyone who may have free dived for years but never done any formal courses or training.
Prerequisits:
- You must be 18 years old +
- You must identify as wāhine/a woman
- You must be able to complete and sign this medical form:
- MEDICAL CLEARANCE FORM
- You must be a confident swimmer, but do not need any previous freediving experience
- You must complete the online theory prior to the weekend (approx 2 hours worth)
- Your payment is non-refundable unless we can replace your spot, or we have to cancel due to weather.

Itinerary:
Feb 28th / Friday evening: 5pm-7pm at The Lost Springs for intros and theory
March 1st / Saturday morning: Pool session to cover all confined water skills
March 1st & 2nd / Saturday afternoon + Sunday: Chartered trip to Ahuahu/ Great Mercury Island for some oceanic skills, line diving, and a cheeky spearfishing session to end the day for those who are interested!
