Come away with us on our first ever Salt Aotearoa Wāhine Voyager trip across Te Moana-nui-a-kiwa/The Pacific Ocean to Rarotonga where an incredible group of wāhine have invited us into their watery world.
Experience a week of freediving and spearfishing alongside our sisters from Rarotonga, amongst an ocean filled with whale song, sharing delicious kai and kōrero as a new oceanic whānau. We will have the opportunity to use our dive skills to help with cleaning baby corals, and removing invasive taramea as well as catch our own kaimoana and learn how to cook it island style.
We are offering this opportunity to 8 wāhine from Aotearoa to join us for the most memorable oceanic experience on the stunning island of Rarotonga.
What to expect:
Freediving
- Moana - In the warm waters and stunning reef of Rarotonga.
- Instructors - You will be guided in the water by our amazing host Emma (indigenous to both Aotearoa and Rarotonga) and by our incredibly talented freedive instructor Rose (the only freedive instructor on the island who also just hit 50.5meters).
- Whales - Lucky for us it will be whale season, so while being respectful of these magical beasts we will be sure to dive into wai/water filled with whale song, and hopefully play with a few too.
Gathering kaimoana - We have an amazing local spearfishing wāhine who will help those who are keen to catch our dinner!
Learning and preparing meals - Our local cook will join us to help us learn to prepare and cook our bounty the island way as well as being a voyaging expert so will help share some insights on the history and how we connect from Aotearoa.
Connecting with our Rarotongan sisters – We have put together the most magical team of local water wāhine in the most stunning setting to be immersed in the warm blue moana. The best part is that we will be bringing a group of our new sea sisters with us on this haerenga/journey to freedive together allowing us to create lifelong connections.
Preserving the reef - We will also have the opportunity to connect with Korero o te orau to support Taramea removal, and te ara o te kau- coral restoration, where we will have the chance to help by freediving to clean the baby corals!
Accommodation - Our accommodation is out of this world, with our own pool to practise our breath-hold and stretching, and our own cinema and a private screening of "Pacific Mother".
We have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to join with and grow our community across Te Moana-nui-a-kiw and to embrace a shared connection with our fellow oceanic sisters across the pacific through freediving. This isn’t a “retreat”. This is a fully immersive experience.
